Founded in 1877, MIRNA is a part of the history of Rovinj, a town with a population of 12,000,  rightfully referred to as the "Pearl of Croatia" because of its beauty.

Throughout its long history, Rovinj has been one of the largest and most developed Istrian towns and its main maritime center. Fishing has been one of the most important sources of living for the local population. However, MIRNA is also a part of the world history in the canned fish industry: when it was built, it was among the first such plants in the world.

Between the world wars, the Trieste-based company "AMPELEA" built the then state-of-the-art fish processing facility in Rovinj. Before to World War II, the factory employed 500 people.

As early as in those days, the factory had facilities for utilization of all fish waste. Its major consumer was the military. Maximum production was 233 tons of sterilized and 203 tons of non-sterilized canned goods.

In 1954, MIRNA was given its current name and became an independent company. It began to intensify its development, constructing cooling spaces, expanding its fishing fleet and establishing a factory for the production of canned fish.

Between 1970 and 1974, a new technology for fish processing and additional processing of frozen and fresh fish was introduced and the range of products was expanded.

In March 1994, the company was registered at the Commercial Court in Rijeka as:
Mirna Rovinj, company for harvesting, processing and trading of fish and fish products ltd.
